Two more days of work to go and I am free, free of the grind, finally. A few days ago my friend Katie up and quit her job and she couldn't be happier. Not that she needed to work, her husband, Gavin is a lawyer. Still, it got me thinking if I really needed to keep up the grind. So at one of our lunch meetings, I brought it up and a few people suggested that I look into working online.

I am a copywriter and so I went home and started an account on one of those online services and now I have a half dozen jobs lined up. Hell, I made a hundred dollars the first night. My husband, Larry is a cop, a detective, and he told me to quit if I wanted to. He is ten years older than me and at 58 he's ready to retire, he's been on the force since he was 20. He got shot last year and his heart is no longer in his work. The house is paid off and the kids are in college or gone. Funny how two days will change your whole life.

"Are you working today, babe?" Larry asked me coming into the kitchen.

"Yeah, later," I said. "I am going to the gym and then I have a meeting at noon to hand off my work to the new girl."

"I am meeting with the psych today," Larry said. "Then I am coming home. Do you need anything from the store?"

"We're good, I think. Check the milk, though," I said. Larry headed over to the fridge and opened the door.

"I was talking to Gavin when I was in court yesterday," he said.

"Oh, what about?" I asked.

"He was sharing with me some things about Katie, if you know what I mean," Larry said, with a tone like I was supposed to react. I knew full well what he was talking about, but I refused to give into his police interrogations, and he knew better.

"I’m not sure what you mean, what did Gavin say?" I asked innocently. Larry didn't buy it but he also didn't continue to press me.

"OK, well. I have to go meet this shrink at 8:30 so I'm out. See you later," Larry said with a smile, giving me a kiss and heading out the door.

I picked up my phone and texted the Cookie Club, the name our lunch group had recently taken on. The name started out as a kind of joke because some of the women have "cookie" names for their vaginas. The name eventually stuck. From what some of the woman have said, you have to earn your cookie name by basically being willing to sleep with other people, usually at your husband's request. It was pretty safe to say that I would probably not be earning mine, ever. I didn't see my husband ever asking me to get with another man, or woman, for that matter. Not that I was interested in doing that either.
